Leicester City manager Ruud van Nistelrooy expressed his delight after securing a 3-1 victory against West Ham United on Tuesday, marking a successful start to his tenure. However, the Dutchman acknowledged that there is much work ahead if they are to maintain their position in the Premier League.
Van Nistelrooy was appointed as Leicester's manager on Friday, succeeding the dismissed Steve Cooper. He had previously served as interim manager at Manchester United for four games following Erik ten Haag's departure, and had also been his compatriot's assistant.
"The third day working at the club, it’s been very busy getting to know everyone," the 48-year-old said in a post-match interview. "Everybody was involved with that and helping, it was busy and long days but worth it."
Reflecting on the Premier League's competitive nature, van Nistelrooy emphasized the need for continuous improvement. "We know the level in the Premier League and we know every game we play that everything has to be right. We have to train and develop our defence, our counter attack, our possession."
With 13 points from 14 matches, Leicester currently sit 15th in the 20-team table. They are set to host fourth-placed Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.
