Saira Banu, the ex-wife of the world-renowned composer AR Rahman, has come forward to support him in the wake of their recent divorce announcement, which went viral. Amidst numerous reports speculating about the reasons for their separation, some of which have been unkind, Saira has chosen to defend Rahman. Through her lawyer, Vandana Shah, she released a statement addressing the circumstances surrounding their split. "I'm currently in Bombay and have been physically unwell for the past couple of months. This is why I decided to take a break from AR. I urge YouTubers and the Tamil media to refrain from saying anything negative about him. He is a wonderful person, the best man in the world," she stated. She further explained that she is in Mumbai for medical treatment and emphasized that she did not want to cause any disturbance. Describing the Jai Ho singer as a "gem of a person," she continued, "He is an incredible human being, and all I ask is that he be allowed to be himself. I trust him with my life. That's how much I love him, and that's how much he cares for me. I kindly request everyone to stop making false accusations against him. May God bless us and grant us the space we need. Please stop tarnishing his name."
The couple had been married for 29 years before deciding to part ways. They announced their separation on social media last week, with Banu issuing a statement at the time, saying: "This decision comes after significant emotional strain in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has found that the tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable gap between them, one that neither party feels able to bridge at this time. Mrs. Saira emphasized that she has taken this decision out of pain and agony." Rahman also shared a message on social media, writing: "We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again. To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter (sic)." Some rumors surrounding their split have been linked to a connection with musician Mohini Dey, who coincidentally announced her own divorce from her husband on the same day Rahman revealed his separation.
