Just a year ago, Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail was urging us all to 'Leave The World Behind' with his Netflix thriller that twisted our minds and plunged us into an apocalyptic scenario. However, it seems Esmail overlooked a crucial exception to that directive — 'Leave The World Behind' (but not Julia Roberts). 'How so?' you might ask. Well, according to Deadline, the leading lady of LTWB is joining forces with Esmail once more for a new Warner Bros. thriller titled 'Panic Carefully'. And, to add to the excitement, he's managed to bring Elizabeth Olsen, known as the Scarlet Witch, along for the ride.
Directed by Esmail and penned by him as well, the specifics of 'Panic Carefully' remain under wraps for now. However, Deadline reports that the film is expected to follow a paranoid thriller style akin to Mr. Robot, with 'The Silence Of The Lambs' by Jonathan Demme serving as a tonal reference. Although details are scarce, the fact that the project ignited a bidding war earlier this year, won on the promise of a theatrical release, suggests that Warner Bros. believes they have a big-screen gem in their hands.
For Roberts, 'Panic Carefully' is the second thrilling project in her lineup, following Luca Guadagnino's 'After The Hunt'. Meanwhile, for Olsen, who was recently seen in Azazel Jacobs' tender Netflix drama 'His Three Daughters', this project marks another shift in pace post-MCU — or at least seemingly post-MCU (given the unpredictability of Kevin Feige and his team). For us, the mere mention of these names under a title as intriguingly paradoxical as 'Panic Carefully' is enough to pique our interest. Until we learn more, remember: don't panic — panic carefully.
