Back in February, we shared the thrilling news that Sam Mendes is developing not just one, but four Beatles biopics, each scheduled to debut in theaters by 2027. Although this timeframe might seem distant, the journey towards Mendes' Fab Four films may have just reached its first milestone—and its first Beatle. In an Entertainment Tonight interview following a wave of Grammy nominations, The Beatles' legendary drummer Ringo Starr strongly hinted, if not outright confirmed, that Barry Keoghan, known for his role in 'Bird,' is set to take up the drumsticks in Mendes' upcoming projects.

When asked about the possibility of Irish actor Keoghan portraying him on screen, Starr responded playfully, 'I think it’s great. I believe he’s somewhere taking drum lessons, and I hope not too many.' While this is not yet an official casting announcement, Starr's endorsement of Keoghan is a positive sign for the 'Saltburn' lead, who notably showcased his Scouse accent—among other talents—as Oliver Quick in Emerald Fennell's thriller. If Keoghan's casting materializes, it could bolster rumors that the rest of the band will feature Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, especially since these same rumors initially included Keoghan.

Mendes' films will be the first time Apple Corps Ltd. and the Beatles—including surviving members and the families of George Harrison and John Lennon—have granted full life story and music rights to a scripted project about the band. While we await final release dates and concrete casting confirmations (the possibilities are still wide open), the prospect of four fully authorized features about the world's most iconic band is undeniably exciting. As we eagerly anticipate the opening nights, we'll be sure to let you know when tickets are available. Now, it's up to Sam—don't disappoint us!
