When it comes to telling the story of what is arguably the most iconic band in history, a bold approach is only fitting. Sam Mendes, the director behind the upcoming Beatles films, is certainly taking an unconventional path. Instead of focusing on a single biopic, Mendes is crafting a quartet of movies, each dedicated to one member of the Fab Four. What’s more, he’s eschewing traditional casting announcements by letting cultural icons do the talking.

Last month, Ringo Starr seemingly confirmed that Barry Keoghan will portray him in Mendes’ films. Now, THR reports—courtesy of Ridley Scott—that Paul Mescal is set to transition from Ancient Rome to 1960s Liverpool, starring as singer-songwriter Paul McCartney. During a post-screening Q&A for 'Gladiator II' with Christopher Nolan at the Directors Guild of America, Scott revealed his next project, 'The Dog Stars,' an apocalyptic thriller. When asked if Mescal, the star of 'Gladiator II,' would also appear in 'The Dog Stars,' Scott initially confirmed his involvement but then added a caveat, noting Mescal’s packed schedule might complicate things. Scott then casually mentioned Mescal’s role in the Beatles films, stating, “Paul is actually stacked up, doing the Beatles next. So I may have to let him go.”

As with Keoghan’s rumored casting, nothing is officially confirmed yet for these biopics. However, with two of the four rumored stars now being name-dropped by credible sources—Ringo Starr and Ridley Scott, who recently worked with Mescal—the pieces are starting to fall into place. Whether we’ll soon see Nicole Kidman announcing Harris Dickinson as John Lennon or 'Stranger Things' star Joseph Quinn as George Harrison remains to be seen. With Mendes’ fully authorized and family-approved biopics set to hit theaters in 2027, fans won’t have to wait long to see how it all unfolds.
