Oscar-nominated actress Saoirse Ronan recently revealed in an interview that she has enjoyed her time working on independent films, but now she's eager to take on a more prominent role. Specifically, she expressed her desire to play a Bond villain. Speaking to The Los Angeles Times (via GamesRadar), Ronan shared her dream of being part of a big-budget production. "I've done a lot of independent film," she said. "And I love the experience of making an independent film. I love the atmosphere on those sets." However, she added, "I would like to do something big and shiny." Her dream role? A villain in a 007 movie. "I'd love to do that," she stated.
Every James Bond movie features at least one main villain. Recent examples include Rami Malek as Safin in No Time To Die, Javier Bardem as Silva in Skyfall, and Christoph Waltz as Blofeld in Spectre. The speculation about who might play the next Bond villain is rife, with actors like Paul Giamatti and David Dastmalchian also expressing interest. However, casting for Bond 26 has not yet been announced, and it's likely that the producers will confirm the next Bond actor before revealing the villain and other roles. Aaron Taylor-Johnson is reportedly leading the race to play Bond in the upcoming film.
In August, Ronan discussed her feelings about missing out on a role in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit, admitting she felt "grieved." She now aims to diversify her career by taking on more blockbuster roles. "Even with me choosing very well-respected, drama-fuelled, thought-provoking pieces for the most part--I love doing that. But I'm also like, 'I've done a lot of that. I think I want to do a big movie now.' And hopefully I'll get to do that," she told Total Film.
Ronan has been nominated for Academy Awards for her roles in Atonement, Brooklyn, Lady Bird, and Little Women. Her latest film, The Outrun, is set to premiere this week.
