Actor Scarlett Johansson has joined forces with Scott Stuber to produce an adaptation of The Girl in the Lake, a novel by Lauren Oliver, as reported by Deadline. Johansson is in discussions to portray the lead role in the film.

Amazon MGM Studios and producer Scott Stuber have collaborated to secure the film rights for an adult mystery thriller novel proposal by bestselling author Lauren Oliver. Oliver will not only write the screenplay but also serve as an executive producer. Stuber and Nick Nesbitt will produce alongside Johansson and Jonathan Lia through These Pictures, and Marc Resteghini through Jack Tar Pictures.

Oliver is transitioning to the adult thriller genre after a successful career writing young adult novels, including Panic; the Delirium trilogy: Delirium, Pandemonium, and Requiem; and Before I Fall, which was adapted into a film in 2017. Panic was also adapted into a series by Amazon Studios, according to Deadline.

Johansson made her film debut in North in 1994. She has garnered numerous awards, including a British Academy Film Award and a Tony Award, along with nominations for two Academy Awards and five Golden Globe Awards. Johansson was recently featured alongside Channing Tatum in the romantic comedy-drama film Fly Me to the Moon, directed by Greg Berlanti and written by Rose Gilroy, based on a story by Bill Kirstein and Keenan Flynn.
