Megan Schutt's outstanding ODI performance and a promising debut by Georgia Voll have led to India's lowest total in 12 years in a lopsided series opener in Brisbane. The visitors were bowled out for just 100 after choosing to bat first at Allan Border Field on Thursday afternoon, marking their lowest score in the 50-over format since 2012. Schutt's maiden five-wicket haul (five for 19) was instrumental in the hosts' victory, while Voll's unbeaten 46 off 42 balls ensured they reached the target within 17 overs with five wickets to spare.

The match could have been even more one-sided for the tourists, who managed to take three wickets for two runs after Phoebe Litchfield (35 off 29) had initially taken on the new ball. Litchfield, a left-handed batter, enjoyed some early luck but quickly found her rhythm, hitting a series of square drives to backward point. Australia had raced to 48 inside seven overs before Litchfield was dismissed, followed by Ellyse Perry and Beth Mooney, both out for one, as the hosts lost three wickets for four runs.

Voll began her international career with authority, hitting her first ball through cover for a boundary. The 21-year-old watched the mini-collapse from the other end and maintained her composure in a promising start as the injured Alyssa Healy's replacement. Tight early overs from Kim Garth (one for 20) and Schutt quickly led to wickets, with Smriti Mandhana edging a cut shot to wicketkeeper Beth Mooney, and Priya Punia skying a reckless slog attempt after managing just three runs from 17 balls.

Off-spinner Gardner didn't offer any respite, with Annabel Sutherland taking a catch that ended Harleen Deol's innings, which had shown fleeting promise. Sutherland then trapped Harmanpreet Kaur in front of her stumps as India went nearly 10 overs without a boundary. Mooney's move up to the stumps spooked Jemimah Rodrigues (23 off 42), who was clean-bowled by Garth. Georgia Wareham reduced the tourists to six for 92 with a direct-hit run-out from the boundary that caught Deepti Sharma marginally short.

Litchfield took a sharp catch at short cover to continue Australia's fielding masterclass. Schutt's stump-to-stump bowling then proved too much for the Indian tail as they lost four for three. The second game of the series is in Brisbane on Sunday, before moving to Perth.
