The Scream franchise has announced its return with a new release date. Despite the initial plans for Scream 7 falling through in late 2023, Paramount and Spyglass have now set the film's premiere for February 27, 2026.
Neve Campbell, who has played Sydney Prescott in all Scream films except Scream 6, shared the news on her Instagram page. She co-posted the announcement with Scream 7 director, Kevin Williamson. Campbell is currently the only confirmed cast member from previous Scream films to be returning for the upcoming sequel. The actress skipped the sixth installment due to a pay dispute. Meanwhile, Courtney Cox, who has portrayed Gale Weathers since the first Scream in 1996, recently disclosed that she hasn't yet decided whether to join Scream 7.
Originally, Scream 7 was set to feature Melissa Barerra and Jenna Ortega reprising their roles as the Carpenter sisters, Sam and Tara. However, in November 2023, Barerra was removed from the project after expressing her views on the war in Gaza on social media. Subsequently, it was revealed that Ortega also stepped back from the sequel due to scheduling conflicts with Wednesday Season 2. Campbell and Williamson were later brought in to revive the project.
