Section 9 Interactive, a studio comprised of former Tarsier Studios developers who were behind the first two Little Nightmares games, has revealed today that it has signed a deal with Epic Games Publishing to bring its upcoming game to PC and consoles.
The game, which is yet to be named, appears to carry over some of the Little Nightmares aesthetic into this debut project from the studio. Despite the presence of creepy enemies and a shadowy atmosphere, the studio categorizes the game as a 'sci-fi action-adventure' built using Unreal Engine 5, rather than a horror title. However, some of the enemies depicted in the game's work-in-progress assets evoke a 'In space, no one can hear you scream' feel.
For Epic Games, this partnership follows its most significant achievement to date with Alan Wake 2, which was released last year on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5 to widespread acclaim. Initially launched as a digital-only title, a physical version for consoles has recently become available. Section 9 echoed Remedy's sentiments about their partner, stating that Epic Publishing has provided 'incredible support and the freedom to fully explore our creative vision.'
Other ongoing projects under Epic Publishing include the long-awaited next game from Playdead, creators of indie hits Limbo and Inside, as well as GenDesign, the studio led by Fumito Ueda, known for Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian.
Section 9 is not the only studio working on a project that captures the unsettling atmosphere of Little Nightmares. Tarsier, the original developer of the series, is developing Reanimal, while Supermassive Games is set to create the next sequel, Little Nightmares 3.
