Have you recently purchased Apple's newest flagship, the iPhone 16? Or perhaps you own one of the earlier models from the tech giant's lineup? Apple's iPhones are renowned for their robust security features designed to protect against cyber threats, which is a key reason why many users choose to invest in these devices. However, scammers and fraudsters are continually devising new methods to breach these defenses, aiming to steal personal information and passwords.

In addition to targeting users through malicious apps, public Wi-Fi, iCloud, location tracking, and privacy settings, scammers also attempt to exploit email applications like Gmail and Outlook through phishing attacks. As the digital landscape continues to evolve, the UAE's Cyber Security Council has provided several safety tips to help safeguard your iPhone from vulnerabilities.

Here are five essential tips to keep your device secure:

Firstly, the authority strongly recommends that iPhone users regularly update their Apple ID password. Apple support advises users to create a strong password for their account, consisting of at least eight characters, including a mix of upper and lowercase letters and numbers. Additionally, users are cautioned never to share their account password, verification code, or any account security details.

Secondly, the UAE authority suggests removing any unfamiliar devices from your iCloud account. This step helps to prevent unauthorized access to your data.

Thirdly, users should enable two-factor authentication for their accounts. According to Apple support, this feature is designed to ensure that only the account owner has access, even if someone else knows the password. When signing in to your account on a new device for the first time, you will be prompted to enter a verification code, which is automatically displayed on your device.

Fourthly, the UAE authority advises disabling access to unnecessary applications. Scammers can exploit dubious or malicious apps to steal your information.

Lastly, users should always verify security alerts from Apple to ensure they are legitimate.

The iPhone 16 was officially launched in the UAE on September 20, with eager fans lining up as early as 5am to secure the latest gadget. Enthusiasts from around the world also made special trips to purchase the new variants. Prior to the iPhone 16's release, Apple announced significant security updates across its devices, addressing various vulnerabilities in iOS, macOS, tvOS, visionOS, watchOS, and Safari.
