Selena Gomez experienced a heartfelt moment with Miranda Hart during their appearance on “The Graham Norton Show.” In Friday’s episode, the 51-year-old British comedian disclosed that Gomez’s docuseries “My Mind & Me” was the catalyst for her to open up about her own health journey. “When I watched your documentary on Apple about your illness struggles, I wondered, ‘Should I share my story too?’ It feels quite vulnerable,” Hart shared with Gomez, whose 2022 documentary detailed her bipolar disorder diagnosis and her battle with lupus.

Gomez, 32, was visibly moved and began to tear up as Hart revealed her thoughts. Co-stars Zoe Saldaña and Ncuti Gatwa, who were also on the talk show, were similarly affected by Hart’s candid confession. “I watched [Gomez’s] documentary and thought, ‘Absolutely yes.’ That’s what kept me going,” Hart continued. “Being on this show with you… To see someone in the same kind of pain I was in for different reasons. But we both know what it’s like to live with a chronic condition, always there in the background, and I understand it in a very different way.”

The “Miranda” actress explained that while they didn’t share the same medical condition and she wasn’t a pop star performing in arenas like Gomez, she too had a high-profile career that required her to face public appearances. “I was backstage at the BBC, unsure whether to go on,” Hart recalled. “It’s incredible, and I think she’s amazing.” The comedian then lightheartedly added, “Now back to me.”

Hart recently published her latest memoir, “I Haven’t Been Entirely Honest with You,” which is described as “packed with hard-won wisdoms and gentle truths.” The book’s synopsis reads, “Basically, I’ve had an unexpectedly tough decade—there have been surprising joys, but also deep revelations and challenging lows. I’ll be honest about those, because what I discovered in the tough times were my, what I call, treasures.”

In March, Gomez reflected on her six-part documentary during a SXSW panel, telling the audience, “There were a lot of people who cared about me more than I cared about myself, pushing me to do things I wasn’t ready for. I hit rock bottom, and I had to do it in my own time.” The Disney Channel alum added that she feels “in a much better place now.”
