Seven members of a single family perished after their vehicle plunged into a canal near a village in the northern Indian state of Haryana on Saturday, according to police reports.
Among the deceased were four girls and three women. Authorities have indicated that one girl remains unaccounted for, and a rescue operation is currently in progress.
"We were informed that while the family was en route to a fair, their car veered into a canal near Mundri, resulting in the deaths of seven family members, with only the driver surviving," stated Lalit Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police, during a press briefing.
"The underlying cause of this tragic incident is under investigation," he added.
