Seven individuals perished in the Bayesian yacht disaster, including six who were onboard when the vessel sank and a seventh identified shortly after the incident. The seventh victim is believed to be the yacht's chef, Recaldo Thomas. The identities of the other six are not disclosed. It is known that the yacht was hosting a celebration for Lynch's recent acquittal in an £8 billion fraud case spanning 13 years.

No witnesses have reported seeing the mast break on the 56-metre Perini Navi sailing yacht Bayesian, which sank near Sicily on August 19. According to a crewmember's account provided to BOAT International, the yacht encountered unexpected weather conditions, causing it to tilt 20 degrees to starboard. As the crew secured the deck, the tilt worsened rapidly, leading to the yacht taking on water and sinking quickly. Those on deck managed to escape with minor injuries.

The yacht is believed to have sunk within twelve minutes. An anonymous captain suggests that a significant inflow of water from above could have caused the rapid sinking, given that there were no reported hull breaches and the yacht should have stayed afloat with two flooded compartments. The captain of a sistership to Bayesian finds it hard to comprehend what could have overpowered such a large vessel, describing the 56-metre Perini Navi series as 'bulletproof'.

David Hutchinson, captain of Rosehearty, expressed complete confidence in his vessel, having navigated it globally, including through 70-knot winds in Antarctica and Chile. However, he noted differences between Bayesian and Rosehearty, particularly Bayesian's heavier 74-metre mast and a different layout with guest accommodations positioned further forward. Bayesian, built by Perini Navi in Italy and delivered in 2008, featured naval architecture by Ron Holland Design and interior design by Rémi Tessier. Previously named Salute, it was last refitted in 2016 and was listed for sale earlier this year. The yacht could accommodate nine guests and 12 crew.

BOAT International will continue to report on this developing story.
