To mitigate the surge in energy usage during the summer's hottest months, the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa) has encouraged residents to adopt rationalisation as a lifestyle. In line with this, the authority has invited the people of Sharjah to join the initiative known as Conservation Hour or Peak Hour, scheduled from July through September. This initiative mandates that residents turn off non-essential appliances during non-peak hours, specifically from 2:30pm to 3:30pm. Peak Hour is one of several programs initiated by SEWA to educate the community about the significance of conserving energy. This week, temperatures in the UAE exceeded 50°C, with the most intense heat typically occurring from mid-July to late August, coinciding with humidity levels reaching up to 90 per cent.
