Sharjah Airport saw a 6.7 percent increase in flight movements, with 27,758 flights operated by 35 airlines. The airport handled over 4.392 million passengers during the third quarter of 2024, a 10 percent rise from the previous year. Cargo handling also surged, reaching 46,284 tonnes, marking a 32 percent year-on-year growth. Sea-air cargo operations grew by 7.8 percent, managing 3,236 tonnes.
Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA), highlighted that the airport continues to support Sharjah’s economic sectors, particularly tourism, trade, and business. The growth in travel, aviation, and cargo enhances the airport’s competitive edge, positioning it as a top service provider and aiming to be among the top five regional airports. Al Midfa noted that the airport’s operational growth mirrors Sharjah’s broader economic expansion, making it a prime destination for tourism, investment, residence, and business. The airport’s ongoing development plans ensure world-class services, boosting passenger and airline confidence. This commitment fosters a secure, seamless travel experience supported by innovative technologies and sustainable practices.
The SAA is progressing with the new airport expansion project, aiming to boost capacity to 25 million passengers annually by the end of 2027. This includes upgrading cargo facilities to meet increasing demand, enabling the airport to handle higher volumes of operations and cargo efficiently.
