The Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zones Authority revealed on Wednesday that it had successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle 8.716kg of narcotics through Sharjah International Airport. Customs officers at the Sharjah Airport Customs Centre grew suspicious of cardboard packages belonging to a passenger. Upon closer examination, they discovered that the packages contained 10,934 narcotic tablets, weighing a total of 8.716kg, concealed within lighting equipment.
A case was subsequently filed, and the confiscated materials were handed over to the appropriate authorities for further legal proceedings. The authority expressed its appreciation for the inspection officers and staff at the customs centre, praising their vigilance, heightened security awareness, and unwavering stance against smugglers and those attempting to transport prohibited substances through Sharjah’s customs ports.
