Inmates in Sharjah may now be eligible for conditional release under a recent decision by the emirate's Executive Council. The decision, revealed on Tuesday, outlines that a prisoner can be released on parole after completing three-quarters of their sentence. This release, however, will come with certain conditions and may be granted for a period of one month or longer.
Additionally, those sentenced to life imprisonment can be considered for conditional release if they have served at least 20 years behind bars, according to the decision. In all instances, the final decision on an inmate's conditional release will be made by the Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police. The emirate's public prosecution will then be informed of the decision.
