The Sharjah Debt Relief Committee has cleared over Dh1.15 billion of citizens' debts, according to a statement made by the Ruler of Sharjah on September 4. Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, a member of the Supreme Council and the Ruler of Sharjah, launched the International Government Communication Forum (IGCF) on Wednesday morning with an inaugural speech. During his address, the Ruler highlighted the significance of governmental flexibility and direct citizen engagement. He explained how these principles inspired the creation of the Sharjah Debt Relief Committee. The Ruler noted that existing communication methods were inadequate when the government was urged to interact directly with citizens. Consequently, he initiated the 'Direct Line' TV and radio program. However, recognizing that some matters could not be openly discussed, a new communication channel named 'Mubara' was established. This initiative led the government to identify numerous individuals in need, prompting the formation of the Sharjah Citizens' Debt Relief Committee.
At the IGCF opening ceremony, a film was screened that underscored the importance of providing citizens with dignified living conditions through effective communication between governments and citizens, which fosters development and enhances quality of life. The current forum features over 160 activities, including sessions, motivational speeches, a training program comprising 40 capacity-building sessions, workshops, youth forums, and platforms displaying the latest research and academic theses in communication sciences. These events are supported and sponsored by more than 40 local, regional, and international partners.
