The Ruler of Sharjah, Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, welcomed the Sharjah Handball Club after their historic victory in the Asian Handball Championship. The club secured the title with a narrow 27-26 win against Saudi Arabia’s Al Khaleej in the final match held in Doha on Saturday. To celebrate their achievement, Sheikh Dr Sultan hosted a reception at Al Badiya Palace, where he announced a reward of Dh5 million for the team. This gesture was in recognition of their dedication and hard work in bringing home the prestigious title for the first time in the club's history.

During the reception, Sheikh Dr Sultan expressed his pride in the team's performance and emphasized the importance of continuous development in sports. He highlighted the team's role in elevating handball to an international level and broadening the appeal of sports beyond football, particularly among the youth. He also commended their sportsmanship and commitment to fair play, noting the significant role sports play in building character and promoting mental and physical health.

The event, held on Monday, was attended by Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and several other prominent officials. Sheikh Dr Sultan used the occasion to advocate for the promotion of all sports, suggesting specialised programmes to educate the public about various sports disciplines. He also underscored the importance of women's sports, affirming the emirate’s commitment to providing platforms for female athletes to develop their skills and promote physical well-being.

The victory in the Asian Championship has earned the Sharjah Sports Club's handball team a spot in the upcoming Handball World Championship, further cementing their reputation on the global stage. The players expressed their deep gratitude to the Ruler for his unwavering support, which they believe has been crucial to their success.
