Soon, charging stations for electric vehicles (EVs) will be appearing in Sharjah as authorities in the emirate have green-lit a new project. The fast charging stations will be constructed at various locations to serve both commercial and residential areas, according to authorities. This announcement was made following the latest meeting of the emirate's Executive Council, where several key points were highlighted.
The UAE authorities have been actively developing facilities and infrastructure to make eco-friendly EVs more accessible for drivers. While some areas currently offer free charging, a recent UAE-wide policy has been introduced to standardize fees. The updated fee structure mandates that service providers charge a minimum of Dh1.20 plus VAT per kWh for 'express' charging and a minimum of Dh0.70 plus VAT per kWh for 'slow' charging.
In addition to the forthcoming EV infrastructure, the Sharjah Executive Council also addressed the performance of government entities and strategies to enhance their services. The council further discussed proposals aimed at fostering collaboration among fishermen's cooperative associations across the UAE.
Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, the Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, presided over the meeting, which was attended by other senior officials.
