As the First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Finance of the UAE, Sheikh Maktoum included a brief video in his social media post highlighting Al Banna's extensive service and contributions to Dubai.
"Qasim Sultan is among the pioneering leaders who committedly served Dubai for over 40 years," Sheikh Maktoum noted, using the hashtag #Dubai_stories in Arabic. "Through his hard work and loyalty, he significantly improved the quality of life in Dubai and advanced its infrastructure, facilities, and transportation, transforming it into one of the most beautiful and sophisticated cities. His contributions will be forever remembered by Dubai and its residents, as Dubai never forgets its loyal supporters."
Al Banna's illustrious career began with his appointment as acting director-general of Dubai Municipality from 1985 to 1993, followed by his tenure as director-general from 1993 to 2006. Over his 30-year career, he held various pivotal roles within the municipality, starting as an assistant engineer and progressing to assistant director of the Technical Sector, deputy director, acting director, and finally director-general. His leadership and commitment were instrumental in turning Dubai into a dynamic and modern metropolis. Under his guidance, Dubai Municipality received numerous international awards for its outstanding performance and excellence.
Al Banna's global recognition includes being awarded honorary membership by the United Nations Centre for Human Settlements in 1994 and being appointed the first Goodwill Ambassador for the Centre in the Arab region in 1998.
