The private sector workforce in the UAE has surpassed 100,000 citizens for the first time in history, with 70,000 Emiratis finding employment in private companies over the last two and a half years. This is attributed to the Nafis employment programme initiated by President Sheikh Mohamed in September 2021. Sheikh Mohammed, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, commended the allocation of Dh24 billion for the programme and the enactment of supportive legislations for Emiratisation. Additionally, the UAE Cabinet prioritized Emirati applicants with three or more years of private sector experience for federal government jobs.
Sheikh Mohammed expressed gratitude on social media to the team behind the Nafis programme and the Ministry of Emiratisation and Human Resources, emphasizing the harmonious coexistence of the private and government sectors. The goal is to create 100,000 new jobs for citizens over the next three years, and the private sector is increasingly appealing to Emiratis. Abu Dhabi and Dubai Private companies are mandated by law to augment the number of Emiratis in their workforce annually.
