The Silent Hill 2 remake has garnered generally positive reviews from critics, but it appears that some segments of the fanbase are not entirely pleased with it. As reported by Eurogamer, Wikipedia had to restrict editing on the remake's page after a surge of users tampered with the listed review scores. Over the weekend, the Silent Hill subreddit highlighted this incident. The Reception section of the Wikipedia page, which compiles the percentage scores from OpenCritic and Metacritic, along with individual reviews from various publications, was the primary target. It displayed a Metacritic score of 27/100, contrasting with the current 87/100, and included reviews marked as '0/10' and '0/5'. For instance, GameSpot's Silent Hill 2 remake review by Mark Delaney, which awarded the game a 9/10, was altered to 2/10 on the vandalized page. As of now, the correct review scores have been reinstated. The reception section currently has a placeholder indicating that it needs expansion, and any attempt to edit it is met with a warning that the page is locked due to vandalism. 'While most articles can be edited by anyone, semi-protection is sometimes necessary to prevent vandalism to popular pages,' the message states. The Protection log cites 'persistent disruptive editing' as the reason for the lockdown, which will remain in effect until October 9. The editing log primarily focused on 'accuracy' and 'fixing trolling'. Although there may not be a single definitive cause for the vandalism, recurring complaints about the 'woke' treatment of the game, particularly concerning the character models of Angela and Maria, have been noted. On X (formerly Twitter), Silent Hill 2 (2001) director Masashi Tsuboyama shared his thoughts on the remake, emphasizing that its value lies in allowing a new generation to experience the game. 'As a creator, I'm very happy about it,' Tsuboyama wrote. 'It's been 23 years! Even if you don't know the original, you can just enjoy the remake as it is. Whether it's good or bad doesn't affect the original.' The Silent Hill 2 remake is set to launch on October 8, and you can check the global launch times to plan your journey to Silent Hill.
