Singer Khalid has publicly come out as gay, sharing his decision to reveal his sexuality after being outed. The 26-year-old, a seven-time Grammy nominee, posted a series of messages on X Friday night, expressing that he was neither "ashamed" nor "hiding anything" about his sexual orientation, while emphasizing that it is "nobody's business." In his initial post, Khalid shared a rainbow flag emoji followed by three exclamation marks, adding, "there y'all go. next topic please lol."

One response to his post questioned, "Wait hope Mr Khalid isn’t GEHHH!" Khalid then confirmed, "I am! And that’s okay." He further disclosed that he had been outed, writing, "I got outted and the world still continues to turn. Let’s get this straight (lmao) I am not ashamed of my sexuality! In reality it ain’t nobody’s business! But I am okay with me," accompanied by a black heart emoji and signed off with, "love y'all."

Khalid addressed comments suggesting he was hiding his sexuality, replying, "I wasn’t hiding anything! It’s just not any of your business." After a fan defended him, stating that Khalid "didn’t need to TELL nobody," the singer responded, "thank you!!!! I was never hiding." He concluded with, "aight love y'all thank y'all I’m off this."

Speculation arose about who outed Khalid, with many fans pointing to rapper and singer Hugo Almonte. Almonte, 28, who is openly bisexual, posted a photo with Khalid shortly before Khalid’s announcement, making derogatory remarks about "One of your favorite gay rappers." Khalid received widespread support online, with fans expressing solidarity and appreciation for his courage.

Khalid, named one of Time’s Most Influential People in 2019, has a notable career in the music industry. His sophomore album "Free Spirit" debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 and was certified platinum by the RIAA. The title track reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100, and his previous singles "Location" and "Young Dumb & Broke" climbed to No. 2 and No. 1, respectively, on the Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart.
