The tagline for the highly anticipated sequel, Smile 2, is "Would it kill you to smile?" And within the narrative, it just might. Similar to the first film, Paramount has deployed performers to promote the new movie by making appearances in prominent locations while showcasing their most unsettling grins. However, one of the Smile 2 promo actors struggled to keep their composure during a baseball playoff game.
Two of the performers were featured in close-up shots at the Dodgers vs. Mets game, courtesy of Fox's MLB X account. Shortly after, the same X account observed that the actor on the left flinched and broke character during a foul ball play. Meanwhile, their companion managed to maintain their composure and eerie grin.
The original Smile, released in 2022, became an unexpected success. Starring Sosie Bacon as Rose Cotter, a therapist plagued by a curse, the film saw Rose encountering sinister smiles everywhere she went as the curse took hold. Smile 2 introduces a new victim, Skye Riley (Naomi Scott), a rising pop singer who falls under the same curse that afflicted Rose. Like her predecessor, Skye finds herself with nowhere to run when the curse comes for her.
Kyle Gallner returns as Joel from the first film, linking the two movies. The cast also includes Rosemarie DeWitt, Lukas Gage, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Peter Jacobson, Raúl Castillo, Dylan Gelula, and Ray Nicholson. Drew Barrymore is set to make a cameo as herself.
Smile 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on Friday, October 18.
