All your bags are packed and you're ready to go, standing outside your door, yet you loathe saying goodbye and fear the airport chaos. Even a John Denver hit might not soothe this summer travel anxiety. But worry not, here are some tips and tricks for smoother family flights.
Dubai-based Emirates has announced a significant peak travel period starting Saturday, July 6, as numerous families embark on their summer vacations. The airline urges passengers to be mindful of crucial airport timings. During this peak period, Emirates advises those departing from Dubai to anticipate heavier traffic en route to the airport, longer queues at immigration, and additional time required to navigate between concourses and reach boarding gates.
Follow these guidelines for hassle-free family travel: Arrive at the airport three hours prior to departure, clear immigration 1.5 hours before departure, and ensure you reach your boarding gate one hour in advance.
Here are some steps to ensure a stress-free journey: Opt for the Emirates Home Check-In service in Dubai and Sharjah, where agents complete the check-in process at your home, hotel, or office, and transport your bags directly to the flight. This service, which requires booking at least 24 hours in advance, is complimentary for First Class passengers and Platinum Skywards members. Additionally, use the Emirates app or website for booking, flight changes, digital boarding passes, flight notifications, and even pre-selecting in-flight entertainment. Online and app check-in options are available 48 hours before the flight.
Emirates customers can also drop off luggage the night before their flight at no extra cost. Those departing from Dubai can check in early and drop off bags up to 24 hours before departure, or 12 hours prior for US-bound flights. The City Check-In service at DIFC and Ajman Central Bus Terminal offers further convenience, allowing check-in up to 24 hours before the flight.
Enjoy a complimentary family ice-cream from Emirates until July 28. Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday between 12pm and 6pm, visit the Emirates ice cream carts in Terminal 3 for a variety of flavors including vanilla, chocolate, dulce de leche, mango sorbet, and lemon sorbet.
