Eight years ago, Sneha Shetty survived a near-drowning incident that might have forever deterred her from the water. Instead, she chose to face her fears head-on, embarking on a transformative journey that has not only reshaped her life but also inspired many. Committed to conquering the water, she initiated her training, which culminated in a remarkable achievement. Today, Sneha boasts the titles of PADI Master Instructor, Freediving Instructor, Technical Diving Instructor, and Program Director at PADI Swim School, becoming the first Indian woman to dive to a depth of 100 meters in the Red Sea. Her list of accomplishments is unparalleled globally, making her the only woman to hold such a diverse array of accolades.
At the core of Sneha's endeavors is her profound love for the ocean and a steadfast dedication to educational initiatives. As the Program Director for PADI Swim School, she trains aspiring Swim Instructors, empowering them to help others overcome their fears and embrace the water, mirroring her own journey. Renowned for her patience and empathy, Sneha excels in transforming individuals with severe aquaphobia into confident, passionate divers through innovative techniques. Her success in converting non-swimmers and water-phobic individuals into divers is making PADI Scuba Courses an inclusive sport, regardless of physical abilities or gender.
Beyond diving and swimming, Sneha is a fervent advocate for ocean conservation. Through her partnership with PADI Aware Foundation, she has raised funds for projects aimed at protecting endangered marine species and preserving the underwater ecosystems for future generations. Leading by example, she believes that every diver has a role in safeguarding the oceans. She is actively involved in the PADI Dive Against Debris initiative, instilling in her students the principle of making “Every Dive A Survey Dive” and personally leading teams in removing marine debris. “More than 50% of the oxygen we breathe comes from the ocean. It is imperative that we educate ourselves about our environmental impact and how we can contribute to its preservation,” Sneha emphasizes. Through conservation-focused PADI Aware courses and clean-up dives, she educates divers on preserving marine habitats and inspires them to protect our oceans.
Having transitioned from a career in marketing at leading financial institutions, Sneha now dedicates her time to DiveCampus Diving Club in the UAE, the first concept store for ‘everything diving’ and home to the region’s largest indoor ‘Dive Tank’ made from upcycled shipping containers. DiveCampus is also the first and only PADI Eco Center in Dubai, recognized for its environmental sustainability. “PADI’s core values focus on achieving balance between humanity and nature by empowering individuals and businesses like Sneha and DiveCampus,” says Firas Jundi, PADI EMEA - Regional Manager. Sneha’s achievements are not just breaking barriers; she is paving the way for a future that champions diversity and inclusion in the dive industry and fosters ocean conservation advocates.
