Gaming companies have never been hesitant to include ads in their games, but Sony is now altering the way these ads function on the PS5 dashboard. What was once a showcase for stunning game art has now become a platform for integrated ads within the user interface, with no apparent option to disable them without disconnecting the PS5 from the internet.

These ads appear to be tied to the official news feed of the respective games. For instance, when the latest Spider-Man game was accessed at the GameSpot office, an ad for a roundtable video featuring the creative team of Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was displayed. Other examples can be found in the gallery below.

Some ads, such as the one attached to Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, are outdated. This particular ad promotes a May the 4th event from last May. As expected, PS5 gamers are not pleased with these changes, and the initial reaction on social media has been overwhelmingly negative.

GameSpot has contacted Sony for a comment on the PS5 dashboard ads.
