Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 publisher Focus Entertainment has announced that the Saber Interactive-developed game has sold 4.5 million units since its launch last month. This impressive sales figure aligns with recent statements from Saber's chief creative officer, Tim Willits, who mentioned the sales threshold required for the game's success. "We don't need to sell 4 million units to consider Space Marine 2 a success," Willits stated earlier this month. "There are numerous games, particularly from North American developers, where selling less than 5 million copies is deemed a failure. What kind of industry are we in where selling less than 5 million is a failure?"
Upon its release, Space Marine 2 received positive reviews and attracted over 2 million players on Steam. In contrast, other high-profile games like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and Star Wars Outlaws have faced disappointing launches, according to their respective publishers.
Although primarily a single-player game, Space Marine 2 offers PvE and PvP modes for players to explore post-campaign. A recent patch introduced a new difficulty mode, a photo mode, and significant fine-tuning. However, these changes have been met with mixed reactions from fans, particularly the adjustments to the perfect parry window for fencing weapons, the nerfing of the basic Auspex Scan, and the perceived unfairness of the difficulty modes in Operations.
The game is currently experiencing review-bombing on Steam due to these changes, prompting Focus Entertainment to announce balancing fixes in response to player feedback. "We have closely reviewed your feedback on the latest Space Marine 2 patch and are actively working on another update that includes balancing fixes," Focus wrote in a recent X / Twitter post. "This update is expected to release next week."
