A special Air India flight arrived at Barbados Airport on Wednesday to bring home the T20 cricket World Cup winners, India, who were stranded in the West Indies due to the airport closure caused by Hurricane Beryl.
The team, led by Rohit Sharma, is scheduled to arrive in Delhi on Thursday. Prior to their departure, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video of the World Cup Trophy that India secured with their victory over South Africa. 'It's coming home,' BCCI captioned the video.
The chartered flight, organized by BCCI secretary Jay Shah, will also transport members of the Indian media who were covering the tournament but got stuck due to the hurricane. Just hours after their T20 World Cup triumph, the Men in Blue had to remain indoors in their hotel rooms as Hurricane Beryl hit Barbados on Sunday, leading to a curfew for public safety. Additionally, electricity and water supplies were disrupted.
