A special court dedicated to resolving property disputes for Pakistanis living abroad will be established, according to a statement from Pakistan's mission in the UAE on Saturday.
Pakistanis residing in the UAE, other GCC countries, and Western states predominantly invest in the real estate sector of their home country. Consequently, many encounter legal disputes related to their property investments. The creation of this specialized court aims to expedite the hearing process for property disputes involving overseas Pakistanis.
Over nine million Pakistanis live abroad, and their remittances significantly contribute to the country's foreign exchange reserves. In 2023, overseas Pakistanis, particularly those in Gulf countries, remitted $27 billion back to Pakistan. Saudi Arabia and the UAE host the largest Pakistani diaspora.
The National Assembly and the Senate of Pakistan have passed the Establishment of Special Court Act 2024, which is designed to handle property dispute cases for the country's diaspora. This special court will ensure that cases are resolved within 90 days, providing swift justice and protecting the interests of overseas Pakistanis.
Overseas Pakistanis will have the option to file petitions through a digital platform. The court will facilitate the presentation of evidence via video links or other legally recognized methods, overseen by officials from Pakistan's high commissions or consulates.
