Spotify is set to update its application on Apple devices within the European Union on Wednesday, incorporating the prices of its diverse plans and services. This update comes over three months after Apple initially denied such an update due to Spotify's refusal to comply with Apple's newly introduced Music Streaming Services Entitlement. This entitlement governs how music streaming applications in the European Economic Area inform users about alternative purchasing methods.
The Swedish audio streaming giant has now agreed to accept these terms. However, its iOS application will not provide users with an external link to make purchases, as it aims to avoid paying Apple a commission on such transactions. Apple had previously stated that adherence to its music streaming terms did not necessitate an external payment link.
Spotify commented, "While this is progress, it's only a small step in the long march towards giving iPhone consumers basic product experiences they expect and deserve in their apps." In early April, Apple facilitated better communication for music streaming apps with users on iOS devices in the EU. This move followed a fine of 1.84 billion euros ($2 billion) imposed by Brussels on Apple for restricting competition from music streaming rivals through its App Store policies. Apple has yet to respond to a request for comment from Reuters.
