Stagwell, the marketing network designed to revolutionize the industry, has named Sunil John as Senior Advisor for Stagwell Mena. In this role, John will oversee the establishment of Stagwell’s upcoming Mena office, driving growth and fostering collaboration among local agencies and partners. He will also create innovative client solutions, leveraging his extensive regional connections to assist brands in achieving both regional growth and global expansion.

John, recognized as the Best PR Professional in the Middle East by PRWeek in 2023 and 2020, brings over 30 years of regional expertise to Stagwell. He founded ASDA’A BCW, the Middle East’s premier PR consultancy, and played a pivotal role in shaping the public relations landscape in the Arab world. During his tenure at ASDA’A, he launched Proof Communications, a digital and design specialist firm, and OnePoint5, an ESG advisory. He also spearheaded the annual Arab Youth Survey, a pioneering thought leadership platform that captures the aspirations of 200 million Arab youth.

Furthermore, as an Advisory Board Member of the Dubai International Chamber since July 2021, John has been instrumental in solidifying Dubai’s position as a global trade hub. “Marketers who overlook Mena will miss out on one of the most significant consumer growth stories of our decade,” stated Mark Penn, Chairman and CEO of Stagwell. “As we aim to become more competitive internationally, Sunil’s unmatched experience in Mena and his leadership capabilities are exactly what Stagwell needs to strengthen our presence and help our clients thrive in this critical market.”

“I am thrilled to join Stagwell and contribute to its distinctive technology-driven marketing services,” said Sunil John. “The chance to combine my experience, my passion for research and insights, and my focus on digital transformation and technology with Stagwell’s innovative approach will deliver significant value to a region that is among the fastest-growing in the world. As a challenger network, I believe Stagwell will make a substantial impact for our clients in the Mena region.”

John’s appointment coincides with Stagwell’s expansion plans in the region, following its recent announcement of intent to acquire Consulum, a leading government advisory firm specializing in strategic communications, public policy, and leadership support in Mena and other global markets. Stagwell’s presence in Mena includes its omnichannel media agency Assembly and the global creative collective Forsman and Bodenfors. Additionally, Stagwell’s global affiliate partners in the region include marketing and talent management agency FLC and strategic growth advisory firm Phronesis Group. With offices in Dubai, Cairo, and Riyadh, Stagwell is well-positioned to serve clients across various industries in Mena, such as retail, automotive, crypto, real estate, tech, and finance.

The Mena region is a crucial growth market for Stagwell as the company aims to double its revenue beyond North America by 2025. So far in 2024, Stagwell has acquired several firms, including Team Epiphany (US), Sidekick (UK), What’s Next Partners (France), PROS (Brazil), Business Traveller (Global), and BERA (US).
