Despite being in pre-release early access, Star Citizen has garnered a significant following and hosts its own annual event, CitizenCon. However, with the full release still not in sight, Cloud Imperium Games, the developer behind Star Citizen, is reportedly compelling its staff to work seven days a week in the lead-up to CitizenCon. Insider Gaming has shared excerpts from an internal email at Cloud Imperium Games, which explicitly instructs employees to work every day leading up to CitizenCon, including the weekends prior. Remote work is only permitted on the Sunday before CitizenCon, though the company prefers employees to come in that day as well.
The primary objectives of this intense work period are to complete Star Citizen patch 3.24.2 and the Squadron 42 demo showcase for Chapter 1. The report also mentions that employees were initially approved for 12 hours of TOIL (time off in lieu) per week, but this is contingent on them remaining employed by Cloud Imperium Games when Squadron 42 is released. If any employees leave before then, they will forfeit their accumulated TOIL.
CitizenCon is scheduled to take place in Manchester, England on October 19-20. In a subsequent email to employees, Cloud City Games offered Monday, October 21, as a free day off. As of now, there is still no definitive word on when Star Citizen will transition from early access to a full release, with the project now spanning over 12 years.
