Eight years after its 2016 debut, Stardew Valley creator Eric 'ConcernedApe' Barone has achieved 100% completion in his own game. Barone, who single-handedly developed every aspect of Stardew Valley, from art to music to code, has previously completed full playthroughs. However, this week, Barone announced that he recently unlocked all 49 Steam achievements and confirmed the 1.6 update's release date for consoles and mobile devices.
'I had to do it over a couple of days because I was on a multiplayer farm,' Barone explained on Twitter. 'But I didn't 'cheese' it with reloads; it was a legitimate no-death run.'
While player-characters can't die in the main game, Stardew Valley includes challenging mini-games where death is possible. The Fector's Challenge achievement, requiring players to beat Journey of the Prairie King without dying, is particularly tough. Barone, like many players, found this the final obstacle.
He shared tips for mastering Journey of the Prairie King: 'You need money, so don't use the 'nukes' because the enemies don't drop anything from that. Purchase the best item you can afford in this order: ammo > revolver > boots. Save a machine gun power-up for fighting Fector, you can take him down before he even has a chance to attack you.'
Barone also provided advice on defeating the Outlaw: 'He has two moves, one where he moves across the screen and shoots. For that one, move in the opposite direction as him to avoid his bullets, and then hit him diagonally when he pauses. The other move, he pops out and shoots straight at you. If you position yourself right at the edge of his 'cover,' he won't be able to hit you, but you can hit him.'
Most notably, Barone confirmed that the long-awaited 1.6 update will arrive on consoles in just one week. The 1.6 update, launched for PC in March, includes new items, improved NPC dialogue, new pets, and more. Initially, the update had some bugs and wasn't ready for console or mobile release. Barone paused work on Haunted Chocolatier to focus on Stardew Valley 1.6.
In September, he updated fans on the progress, acknowledging delays. Recently, Barone announced on the official Stardew Valley website that the update would release on November 4 for console and mobile devices, with version 1.6.9 also coming to PC around that time.
Barone expressed excitement about the upcoming release: 'I'm looking forward to having 1.6 fully released on all platforms. Then I would like to finish Haunted Chocolatier next. Thank you.'
