Stardew Valley's massive 1.6.9 update rolled out across all platforms earlier this week, including consoles and mobile devices. While developer Eric 'ConcernedApe' Barone detailed the update's contents in the patch notes, he omitted one intriguing feature: Mobile players can now access the game's multiplayer mode by entering the Konami Code.

Barone later acknowledged this new mobile feature in a blog post, explaining why it was not mentioned in the patch notes and why the Konami Code is currently the only method to access it. 'With the release of Stardew Valley 1.6 on mobile, there is now a hidden multiplayer feature which you can access,' Barone wrote. 'It is hidden for a couple of reasons: 1. It's an experimental feature, so it might still have some bugs or issues. 2. The nature of the mobile platform could make a multiplayer session frustrating under certain scenarios.'

Barone noted that mobile multiplayer functions similarly to other platforms but lacks the 'farm discovery' feature found in other versions. Players can only connect by sharing their IP address (if hosting) or entering the host's IP address (if joining). Barone also mentioned that mobile players can connect to a PC-hosted farm using this method.

The ideal scenario for mobile multiplayer, according to Barone, is connecting to a PC-hosted farm from a high-end mobile device on a local network via Wi-Fi. The worst-case scenario involves hosting a game from a low-performance phone on a cell network, potentially leading to a frustrating experience.

Despite these potential issues, Barone encourages mobile players to try the mode. 'If you want to try these things out, there's nothing stopping you,' he said. 'Just be aware that there are inherent connectivity issues that can arise when attempting to host a multiplayer game from a mobile device.'

For those curious about entering the Konami Code on mobile, Barone provided a step-by-step guide. Players should press the following 'arrows' (leaves) in this order: up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right. Instead of the traditional 'B, A, start' ending, players need to press the question mark icon on the bottom right corner of the screen. After exiting the '?' menu, a co-op button will appear on the title screen, allowing players to join or host a session.

Barone has outlined potential issues and their workarounds in his blog post, including a mini-guide to help Android and iOS users find their IP address. For troubleshooting and tips, players can refer to Barone's recent blog post.

As for Barone, he plans to resume work on his next project, Haunted Chocolatier, once the 1.6.9 update is stable and 'settled' on all platforms.
