Another screenwriter has reportedly exited the Star Wars movie focusing on Rey. This time, it's Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, who has left the project. Daisy Ridley is set to reprise her role from the sequel trilogy. According to Variety (via Puck News), Knight is no longer involved in writing the script for the Star Wars film centered around Rey. Disney is already on the lookout for new writers to take over the screenplay, which will feature Rey attempting to establish a Jedi academy. Oscar-winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy remains attached to direct.

Knight initially joined the Star Wars project in May 2023. He stepped in after the departures of Damon Lindelof (Lost) and Justin Britt-Gibson (Counterpart). In April 2023, the Rey film was announced as one of three new Star Wars movies, with plans for it to be the first to hit theaters. However, the next major Star Wars release will be The Mandalorian and Grogu, premiering on May 22, 2026.

Details about the Rey-centric Star Wars movie remain scarce, but Ridley has shared some insights. In March, she mentioned that Rey "probably doesn't have children." Ridley has also expressed interest in bringing back John Boyega's Finn for the film. The project does not yet have an official title, and it reportedly won't be called Star Wars Episode X: A New Beginning.

Meanwhile, Knight is occupied with the Peaky Blinders movie, which began production about a month ago. The film stars Cillian Murphy, Rebecca Ferguson, Barry Keoghan, and Tim Roth.
