If you've been holding off on purchasing a new Subaru BRZ in anticipation of better pricing or additional features, we have some disappointing news. The base price of Subaru's sports car has increased by $900, and the destination charge has also risen by $50. To be honest, we're having a hard time understanding the rationale behind this.
The 2025 Subaru BRZ now starts at $32,265, which includes the $1,170 destination fee. In exchange for this price hike, Subaru has introduced a new Sport mode across all BRZ trim levels. This software update, according to the company, enhances "sharper throttle response during spirited driving." However, this enhancement is only available in models equipped with a manual transmission. If you choose an automatic transmission, everything remains the same as it was last year.
What about the pricing for the Limited and tS models? They too have seen increases, with the Limited manual receiving the largest bump at $1,100. Here's a detailed comparison of the year-over-year pricing, including destination fees.
This price increase comes at a time when BRZ sales are plummeting. Subaru sold only 1,414 units during the first half of the year, a decline of nearly 44 percent. There's no sign that the situation will improve by the time the third-quarter report is released in early October.
The BRZ remains a beloved sports car with its 228-horsepower, naturally aspirated 2.4-liter flat four and manual transmission. The tS model includes additional suspension tuning, but with a starting price now approaching $40,000, it's a significant ask when comparable models like the Subaru WRX or Toyota GR Corolla are available for similar money.
