A suicide bomber detonated explosives in the Afghan capital on Monday, according to police, resulting in the deaths of six individuals and the wounding of 13 others.

"This afternoon, an individual wearing explosives on his body detonated," stated Khalid Zadran, the Kabul police spokesman, on the social media platform X. "Regrettably, six civilians, including a woman, were killed and 13 others were injured." No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, which occurred in the southern Kabul area of Qala-e-Bakhtiar, with investigations still underway, as per Zadran.

Since the 2021 Taliban takeover, which concluded a two-decade conflict between foreign forces and Islamic insurgents, violence has decreased in Afghanistan. However, the regional chapter of Islamic State, known as Islamic State Khorasan, remains active and frequently targets civilians, foreigners, and Taliban officials with gun and bomb attacks.
