The Swedish head chef of a private members' club and restaurant in Dubai, who was attacked and found unconscious with a severe head injury late Monday night in London, has passed away, according to his friends and colleagues who confirmed the news on social media.
Mussie Imnetu, 41, the head chef at The Brasserie in Dubai's The Arts Club, was discovered unconscious with a head injury in Queensway, near the Notting Hill Carnival. He was quickly transported to a hospital where he fought for his life.
On Saturday, Italian businessman Massimo Vidoni shared the tragic news on Instagram, stating: "Just got the shocking news. Chef Mussie passed away. RIP Mussie, you will always be remembered. My condolences to the family." Vidoni, known as the Truffleman in Dubai, further expressed his grief, describing Imnetu as one of the kindest and calmest individuals he had ever met.
Imnetu, a Swedish national residing in Dubai, was in London on business. He had previously worked at prestigious London establishments such as Oblix at The Shard and The Savoy Grill, and had trained under renowned chefs like Alain Ducasse, Gordon Ramsay, and Marcus Wareing.
Police have arrested a 31-year-old man from Newham on suspicion of attempted murder, and he remains in custody at a South London police station. Specialist officers are supporting Imnetu's family as the investigation continues.
Despite the arrest, authorities are urging witnesses of the attack to come forward. Customers who attempted to intervene are particularly sought after for any information that could aid the investigation. The incident occurred on a day when 230 people were arrested at the Notting Hill Carnival.
