Are you considering making the significant transition to driving an electric vehicle (EV) in Dubai? The emirate's water and electricity authority, DEWA, provides a green charger card to streamline the process of charging these vehicles. Users can also link this card to their DEWA account, allowing the EV charging fees to be included in their monthly water and electricity bill.
The UAE has been actively promoting the use of EVs over petrol cars. Authorities are diligently working to ensure that EV charging infrastructure is as accessible as possible. During Gitex 2024, DEWA issued its first two charge point operator (CPO) licenses to Tesla and UAEV.
Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to register your EV with DEWA and obtain the green charging card. To create an EV account, DEWA’s existing customers can log in using their DEWA ID or UAE Pass through the authority’s website or smart app. Non-DEWA customers must obtain a DEWA ID or use UAE Pass to apply for the service.
After applying for an EV account on DEWA’s website, customers receive a notification number via email and SMS, which they can use to track the status of their request. The green charger card will be delivered to customers via a courier company within three working days of account creation.
Fees include a security deposit of Dh500 for non-commercial individual or business use of EVs, and delivery charges of Dh20.
