Syrian air defense systems were actively intercepting 'hostile targets' in the central region of the country on Sunday evening, according to state media. This term is typically employed to denote Israeli strikes on the war-torn nation. The official SANA news agency reported, 'Our air defense systems are intercepting hostile targets in the airspace of the central region' of the country. Simultaneously, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitor documented 'Israeli strikes' resulting in explosions in Homs province, central Syria.

Israel has been conducting strikes against targets within Syria for several years, but the frequency of these raids has significantly increased since the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas last year. Nearly one year since the Gaza war, the conflict has expanded to involve confrontations with both Iran and Lebanon.
