The newly established Syrian leadership announced on Thursday that it had released an American citizen named Travis Timmerman and expressed its willingness to collaborate with Washington to locate other Americans who went missing during Bashar al-Assad's rule. "The American... Travis Timmerman has been released and is now safe," stated the new government's political affairs department in a Telegram message. "We affirm our commitment to working directly with the US administration to find American citizens who disappeared under the previous Assad regime."

Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed on Thursday that the US is "actively working to bring home" Travis Timmerman, following the announcement from Syria's new leadership that he had been released. "We're working to bring him home," Blinken said during a visit to Jordan to discuss the situation in Syria after Bashar al-Assad's removal. He added that he could not provide specific details on the next steps.
