Celebrity duo Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have sparked the creation of a new Lifetime Christmas movie, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The film, titled Christmas in the Spotlight, is set to debut later this year as part of Lifetime's yearly holiday programming, "It's a Wonderful Lifetime."
The narrative centers around Bowyn, a pop star portrayed by Jessica Lord, who encounters a professional football player named Drew, played by Laith Wallschleger, backstage at one of her performances. Following Drew's public declaration of his affection for Bowyn, the two begin dating. As their bond grows, they confront obstacles from the media, paparazzi, and even their families.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie's synopsis states, "With people questioning if their feelings for each other are genuine or merely for show, the pressure intensifies." Incorporating a festive twist, the couple must determine by the end of the Christmas season whether they wish to continue their relationship or part ways.
The film features TV host Jeannie Mai as Bowyn's manager and TikTok influencer Haley Kalil as Drew's sister-in-law. Although the movie is not officially inspired by Swift and Kelce's relationship, the plot closely parallels their real-life romance. Kelce attended one of Swift's concerts last year and later confessed on his podcast that he intended to give her a bracelet with his phone number, igniting their relationship. Swift was spotted at several Kansas City Chiefs games, showing her support for Kelce, and their relationship has since become a major talking point.
In addition to the film, Hallmark, Lifetime's holiday movie competitor, is also delving into the NFL realm. Hallmark will broadcast Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story, which will incorporate Kansas City Chiefs branding and feature scenes shot at Arrowhead Stadium.
Christmas in the Spotlight is penned by Eirene Tran Donohue and directed by Michelle Ouellet.
