The MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA) nominations have been revealed, with Taylor Swift topping the list with seven nods. The 34-year-old pop icon is in the running for Best US Act, Best Artist, Best Video, and Best Collaboration, all thanks to her album 'The Tortured Poets Department', released earlier this year. Swift, who Forbes ranks as the world's wealthiest female musician, faces competition from artists like RAYE, Sabrina Carpenter, Billie Eilish, and first-time nominee Chappell Roan for the Best Artist award.
Last year's MTV EMA ceremony was canceled just two weeks before the event due to the 'volatility of world events', following the onset of the Israel-Hamas conflict. This marked the first time in the EMA's 30-year history that the event was canceled.
This year, female artists are dominating the nominations, with 10 out of the 11 top-nominated artists being women. Billie Eilish, Charli XCX, and Sabrina Carpenter each received five nominations, followed by Beyoncé, LISA, Ayra Starr, Chappell Roan, and Tyla with four each.
MTV reports that 19 nominees have the opportunity to win their first EMA this year, including British and Irish acts such as Disclosure, Fred Again.., Fontaines DC, and The Last Dinner Party. The Best Regional Act nominees once again showcase the global reach of pop music.
Fans from 23 regions worldwide can vote for their favorites on the EMAs website until 6 November. The MTV EMA ceremony will take place on 10 November in Manchester at the Co-op Live arena, which opened this year after several delays and cancellations.
