Tencent has recently introduced its newest game, an open-world survival title named Light of Motiram. While the game's trailer is visually captivating, it is hard to overlook the striking similarities to Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West. Set in a world that blends ancient and futuristic elements, players must craft items, manage survival stats, and combat robotic creatures known as Mechanimals.
The game's environment, polygonal robot creatures, and even the tall grass appear heavily influenced by the Horizon series. However, Light of Motiram also draws inspiration from other games. In both the cinematic trailer and gameplay footage, players are accompanied by a small, floating robot with a synthetic 'eye' at its center. These airborne gadgets resemble Destiny's Ghosts and seem to scan objects in the environment, though they do not revive players as Ghosts do.
Regarding gameplay, the trailer hints at a dream involving a deity performing less-than-benevolent actions, posing the question: 'Why can't human beings kill god?' This query is not directly addressed in combat, which adopts a Monster Hunter-style approach to hunting and battling Mechanimals. These robotic animals can also be tamed and assist players in combat. The game's website mentions co-op and online play, but it remains unclear how these multiplayer mechanics integrate with the crafting and survival systems.
Tencent has not yet announced an official release date for Light of Motiram, but the game is currently available for wishlisting on Steam. Light of Motiram is set to launch on mobile devices, PC, and PlayStation 5.
