The free-to-play card game The Elder Scrolls Legends is no longer available for purchase on Steam, and its servers will be deactivated on January 30, 2025. "Thank you for playing and we hope you have enjoyed your time in Legends," reads the game's Steam page (via Rock Paper Shotgun). Set in the same fantasy world as the mainline Elder Scrolls games, The Elder Scrolls Legends was launched in 2017 and was among several mobile games released by Bethesda at the time, including Fallout Shelter and The Elder Scrolls: Blades.
Active development on The Elder Scrolls Legends concluded in 2019, but the game continued to host regular events and offer rewards for dedicated players. In recent years, several high-profile live-service games have been canceled, with Sony's hero shooter Concord being one of the more notable examples. After less than two weeks on sale, the game was taken offline and permanently shut down in October, leading to the closure of developer Firewalk Studios.
Meanwhile, Bethesda released The Elder Scrolls: Castles on iOS and Android in September. Similar to Fallout Shelter, this game allows players to manage their own castle, running their kingdom and defending against invaders within their fortress. Additionally, The Elder Scrolls 6 is in development, but fans should not expect its release for several more years. In 2023, Bethesda boss Todd Howard reflected on the early announcement of The Elder Scrolls 6, and Bethesda veteran Bruce Nesmith recently stated that it will be "almost impossible" for the game to meet the high expectations upon its eventual release.
