The journey is nearing its conclusion. For numerous car aficionados today, Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond have been the sharp-tongued visages of automotive TV for more than twenty years. However, they are on the brink of their final escapade together. The Grand Tour's last episode, "One for the Road," debuts on September 13 on Amazon Prime, and a fresh teaser gives us our initial official glimpse of the excitement ahead.
The trio will traverse Zimbabwe in three vehicles they've always dreamt of owning. It appears Clarkson is driving a Lancia Montecarlo, Hammond a Ford Capri 3.0-liter, and May a Triumph Stag. The trailer offers little road action; rather, it centers on the three hosts whom so many of us have grown to adore. The Grand Tour debuted in 2016 after the trio departed BBC's Top Gear, which Clarkson had revitalized in the early 2000s. May joined the show in 2003, and it evolved into a global cultural juggernaut, fueled by rampant piracy in the early 2000s. This continued until Clarkson was dismissed from the show for assaulting a producer, prompting the trio to move to Amazon.
While the show showcased the newest cars, it was the holiday specials where the trio would purchase inexpensive wrecks for grand escapades across often unforgiving terrains that truly solidified their superstar status. They demonstrated to the world that cars are about far more than metal and oil—they're about the people you share enjoyment with. That's what makes them enjoyable and distinctive. As Clarkson remarks in the trailer, "So, for the last time, here we go." Tune in on September 13, and perhaps have a tissue box handy. This marks the end of an era.
