The iconic Grand Tour series is set to conclude its current iteration on September 13, with the final episode starring Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May airing on Amazon Prime. Despite the departure of the former Top Gear hosts, the show will not be discontinued. Hammond has revealed that Amazon intends to introduce new presenters for the upcoming season, ensuring the continuation of the program. "It will persist," Hammond stated to Metro, a UK publication. "The Grand Tour is ongoing. We are relinquishing our hosting roles, but Amazon will keep it going. I look forward to occupying my seat and observing new faces take the helm. It's quite thrilling."
The 54-year-old presenter also mentioned that he is unaware of who Amazon might select to replace him, Clarkson, or May, but emphasized that the chosen individuals must possess a genuine enthusiasm for the subject matter. "For any show centered around a theme, be it culinary arts, dance, or automobiles, the hosts, who are the core creators, must harbor that fervor within," he explained to Metro. "Our passion was always evident. Viewers didn't need to be automotive aficionados to enjoy our show. Many who weren't did, but it was crucial that we were the car enthusiasts."
The future direction of The Grand Tour under Amazon and its new hosts remains uncertain, but Hammond asserts that it is no longer within his control. "That decision lies with those who are producing it," he noted. "We are always available for consultation if they wish to engage with us, without a doubt. However, it is not our place to dictate its future. We are moving on. We crafted the show we envisioned."
